Admissions

As the competition for college admission increases, so does the pressure and anxiety associated with it. While this is natural, it isn’t inevitable.

I can help to reduce the stress of the college and graduate school application process and to present you to your best advantage.

The key to this lies in the understanding that, just as there are many kinds of students with  different interests and strengths, there are many kinds of institutions with different specialties and different environments.

This means there is an institution for everyone; it also means that the personal essays required for the application should be just that: Personal. Because, contrary to  intimidating rumors about applications, not only is it  o.k. to be honest about who you are, it’s essential. Search committees read thousands  of essays every year, and they are just as disheartened and bored by reading 1,000 cookie-cutter essays as applicants are  by writing them.

More important, it may not be in your best interest to attend an institution that’s accepted an inaccurate version of you.  They may have fulfilled their goal, but you might not fulfill yours.

In short, it’s who you really are and what you really think and hope for that will get you into the school of your choice, not an imitation of the standard essay  from a college application site.

I specialize in helping students get their real ideas, interests, goals and dreams-their real selves- onto the page, where they can be  appreciated by the admissions committee.

Does this mean I can’t help you write a sparkling, beautifully executed jewel of an essay for an application to one of the Ivys? Of course not; I’ll be happy to do just that. However, I’ll still push you to focus on the institutions that will best suit your interests and your temperament, and to write an honest, thoughtful, and original essay or essays for your application.
